October 2013 Citrus Lane Box!

With the craziness of the recent move, I have been neglecting my Citrus Lane reviews!  I still get this awesome box each month, it’s one of the highlights of the month!  🙂

This month’s box, instead of sunny yellow on the outside packaging, was pink in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness month!

And as usual, it was filled with lots of awesome goodies!

BOPS from Good Boy Organics

Okay, snacks are always good, but this one is even good for you!  Well, better for you than regular potato chips anyway!  BOPS stands for Baked Organic Potato Snacks.  Now, there are plenty of baked potato chips out there, but they tend to be very lacking in flavor.  These snacks are 65% less fat than regular chips, certified USDA organic, and completely free of gluten, preservatives and trans fats.  They are also chock full of yummy flavor!  Sara had these with her lunch yesterday, and let Mommy sneak one or two.  Very good, and no icky, greasy mess!

Rythym Sticks from Hohner Kids

We are gathering quite the collection of musical instruments from our Citrus Lane boxes!  We may need to start a neighborhood baby band!  🙂  These sticks are easy for any little one to grasp and painted with durable paint that can stand the test of many a jam session.  There are lots of ways to play with these, and if you have Rock Band fans in your house, this is a fun way to let the little ones play along with the older kids!  Who doesn’t olove to rock?!

Twinkles To Go by Cloud B

Okay.  I love Cloud B.  I mean, seriously, I love every single product they make, everything is super high quality, well thought out and just super adorable!  Imagine how excited I was to see this adorable little octopus friend in our box this month!  This is a perfect companion for on the go, or just the regular night time routine.  With a simple press of a button, she shines beautiful stars and bubbles onto the walls and ceiling!  You can change colors, from blue to red and there is even an automatic timer so you don’t have to worry about the batteries wearing out too quickly.  Our little Octopus friend will be right at home with our Twilight Turtle, also from Cloud B!

Ladybug Magazine

What a gorgeous, lovely magazine!  Filled with stories and poems and beautiful artwork, this magazine is just perfect for a quick story before naptime or even just relaxing together.  Sara is a big bookworm, just like her mama, so how exciting to have her very own magazine!  Included along with this awesome magazine was a really generous offer for a FREE 3 month digital subscription from Cricket Magazine!  Yay!

Besides the outside of the box being different this month, the inside also had some surprises!  What better way to remind moms and dads (and grandmas and grandpas and aunts and uncles, etc!) to take care of themselves and to raise awareness?!  We had a lot of fun with the mustache, in honor of Men’s Health Awareness Month and Breast Cancer Awareness Month!  I love the extra little activity, and of course, the kiddos loved playing with the mustache!

ShaveMob Review!

shavemob

Okay, I have an awesome new subscription service for you that is completely necessary and also brilliant!  Who doesn’t shave?  I mean, honestly, everyone buys razors, men and women, and I don’t know about you, but it’s not the most fun thing on my list!  It also seems to be the one thing that never makes it on the list, making it easily forgotten until it’s time to shave again and all you have is a dull old razor to work with.  Ouch.  Plus, have you been to the razor aisle lately?  Razors and replacement blades are crazy expensive!  The price alone makes me often suffer through a dull blade longer than I should!

In comes ShaveMob!

Through their website, you choose either a men’s or women’s package, and from there, you get to pick exactly which blades you prefer.  3 blade, 4 blade even 6 blade is an option!  More blades equal less swipes equals less irritation equal shorter shave time and happy shaver!  Like an extra trim blade or flex head?  You can choose that in your options!

Here’s where it gets really awesome.  You can keep your razor supply stocked for as little as $2 a month!  Two dollars, my friends!  And the super fancy 6 blade options?  Yeah, as low as $3.33 per month!  That is crazy!  So the blades must suck, right?  Wrong!  These blades are stainless steel, precision cut, non clogging flow through design with a lubricating strip and  easy grip, ergonomic handle.

You can buy a 2 month supply, which consists of one handle and 4 cartridges, a 6 month supply, which consists of one handle and 12 cartridges, or get a full 12 month supply, which consists of a handle and 24 cartridges!  You are saving 70% over those other brands, many of which are far inferior!

When ShaveMob contacted me about reviewing their service, I requested a men’s kit because Abe was looking pretty shabby and overdue for a shave.  I asked him not to shave while we waited for it to arrive, and soon I had a lumberjack in the family!  Well, when the kit finally arrived, the lumberjack beard became a playoff beard, and now there is no convincing him to shave!  At least not until after the Cardinals win the World Series here in a few more games.  😉

So, that being said, I totally stole his kit and used it for myself.  Yup, you snooze you lose in this house!

Let me just say, I have super dark, thick, coarse hair and I have sensitive skin.  Cheap-y razors do not work with me.  I jumped right into the super deluxe 6 blade razors, and wow!  Just, wow!  Super smooth results, single swipe efficient, and no catching, ripping or pulling.  I had zero razor burn, zero irritation, just baby soft, smooth skin.

These razors are top notch, high quality.  To get them delivered right to your door without having to navigate the dreaded razor aisle at the big box stores and dropping big money is a huge luxury that just makes sense.

As an added bonus, and in support of October being National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, ShaveMob is donating twenty-five cents ($0.25) of every woman’s razor sale to Rocky Mountain Cancer Assistance through their “Pink Razors for Pink Ribbons” donation effort.  Read more by clicking HERE.

Okay, so they have an awesome product, they save you time money and hassle, and they are passionate about making the world a better place through charitable donations and awareness.  What are you waiting for?!

Try them out for yourself and join the mob!

The awesome folks at ShaveMob sent me a kit for review purposes free of charge.  I was not compensated in any other way, and I really do think their service is awesome!

The Walking Dead Season 4 Begins!

skull

You guys!!!  Did you watch the season premier of season 4 of The Walking Dead last night?!  I have been waiting for this since the finale of season 3!  We are HUGE Walking Dead fans, so as you can see from the grody/yummy pic above, I decided such an important event required a special treat.  What better that bloody brain cupcakes for the new season of the best zombie show ever?

The kiddos loved them, I mean, what’s not to love?  The cupcakes came in a kit, but Abe came up with the awesomely disgusting idea of adding the bloody icing.  I think they turned out awesome!

Sooooo…….How great was last night’s episode?!  As soon as they showed the new character of Patrick being super nice and likable to Daryl and Carl, I immediately said to Abe, “They are making him too likable, if he live through this entire episode, I will be shocked.”  Gut feeling, what can I say?  On a side note, did you know that the actor who played Patrick is also the voice of Phineas from Phineas and Ferb?  Crazy, right?

So two things they definitely focused on last night was the pig, Violet, being sick and acting strangely and water.  Not so much saying anything in particular about the water, but they showed several characters washing their faces with it, and in the end Patrick hacking all his zombie virus cooties in the shower water supply.

What does it mean?  Are the animals going to start being infected with the virus?  Pigs are close to humans, what with the pig organ transplants and whatnot.  Maybe they are carriers?  Was Patrick somehow bitten or scratched without telling anyone?  Or is the zombie virus contagious?

Big questions, and I’m sure this season will bring up many more before answering any!

Awesome season opener, definitely left us wanting more, but then, we are total zombie geeks, so no surprise there!  That said, is it Sunday yet?  🙂

Back to School Allergy Tips

Now that the kids are back in school and the fall season is in full swing, it’s that time of year when fall allergies seem to sneak up out of nowhere.  This is no time to be weighted down and miserable with allergies!  There are school projects due, apples to be picked, pumpkins to be carved!  So this is the perfect season to refresh your home and your medicine cabinet arsenal.

Every time we start a deep cleaning in the house, no matter the month, my kids always ask me, “Is it spring cleaning day?”  If your family suffers with allergies and even asthma like mine, then I’m sure you’re used to frequent “spring cleaning” as well.

Here are some Back to School Allergy Tips to help you prepare:

1. Be sure to have Children’s Claritin, the #1 pediatrician-recommended non-drowsy allergy brand, on hand!

2. Multi-vitamins are building blocks to having a strong immune system. Make taking a multi-vitamin part of your

child’s daily routine.

3. Let there be light! Mold doesn’t like sunlight, so try to keep your curtains open during the day. Should be easy

during the summer months!

4. Did you know that most pillows trap allergens, dust mites, and bacteria? Monitor the cleanliness of the pillow

your child with allergies sleeps on and replace if necessary.

5. Back to school season means lots of laundry for many moms. Be sure to remove laundry from the washing

machine promptly. Allowing wet clothes to sit in the washer means mold can quickly grow there.

6. Monitor pollen counts and adjust outdoor before and after school activities accordingly. Dry, windy days

can be particularly high in pollen.

7. Showering or bathing at the end of the day as opposed to the morning can be helpful in removing allergens

from body surfaces and hair.

8. Stay hydrated! Always send your child to school with a bottle of water. Drinking lots of clear fluids through the

day can help get rid of toxins and flush out body.

9. Peak pollen production typically occurs in early morning, so try to plan outside activities at other times of the

day.

I think prevention is one of the biggest and best defenses when allergy season comes around.  We regularly wash our pillows and sheets, and we definitely always keep Claritin in full supply.  Other allergy medications, while effective, have a severe drowsy affect on everyone in our family, and with four kids with dance and scouts and school and friends……well, being sleepy is not an option!

Don’t forget to wash the pets too!  When the pups are playing with you outside in the leaves and grass, they are also getting covered in pollen and other allergens.  That’s on top of the already present pet dander that can aggravate allergies, especially when they are already present.  This is the time of year it’s especially important to keep up the regular baths!

Be prepared this allergy season, it’s your best defense!

As a member of the Children’s Claritin Mom Crew, I receive product samples and promotional items to share and use as I see fit. No monetary compensation has taken place and any opinions expressed by me are honest and reflect my actual experience.

The Money Pit

Abe and I joke about our new house being a money pit, it’s not.  Our home was built in 1977, and obviously, is due for updates here and there.  We have already done quite a bit, replacing the ancient stove and dishwasher, along with that scary kitchen sink plumbing I told you about with the electrical tape.  Eek!

Next on our list is a new air conditioner and furnace.  Yuck!  I mean, the units we have are old.  They need to be replaced.  We already had to have the ac serviced, and with winter coming, we certainly don’t want to wake up to furnace problems.  But replacing them is not going to be cheap, and there are so many other things that would be more fun to buy!  This is when it sucks to be a responsible adult.

I know we’ll save money with a new system, and honestly, the peace of mind knowing that everything is under warranty will be well worth the cost.  It’s just a scary about of money to plunk down, ya know?

Another scary aspect of replacing our heating and cooling system, is trying to figure out who the best company to work with is.  We have already had two companies come out with estimates, but with further online investigating, one company kinda has crappy reviews and the other, only has a handful of reviews, though they are all good.

This would be a good time to have a friend in the heating and cooling profession, but alas, all our friends are geeks.  Fun, but not helpful in this situation.

I don’t believe in paying to read reviews on companies, like certain awesome named “list” sites, and the internet, while totally useful for most research, just doesn’t have the amount of reviews that I would like to see to try and gauge a local company’s worthiness of our hard earned money.

I guess this is going to be a learning experience!  I will definitely share an honest review of whichever company that we use, be it good or bad.  I think more people should do that!  Give local reviews of services and companies for your fellow locals!  It’s too hard these days, knowing who and what to trust, and you want to be as well informed as possible when so much money is on the line!

Hopefully I have an awesome review to share with you from a local HVAC company in the coming weeks!
